The SCFPA (Santa Cruz Foundation for the Performing Arts) opens its 2012-13 Benderly Concert Series with The Merling Trio on Sunday, November 18 at 4 pm in the Americas Trade and Commerce building (formerly Sunrise Bank building) at 825 N. Grand Ave, Nogales, AZ.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer said the trio “shaped a grand interpretation, fluent in rhythm and rich in romantic feeling.” The Grand Rapids Press praised the “standard of playing that is on par with some of the best known violin-cello-piano teams, captivating the audience through the immediacy and extraordinary sensitivity of its playing.”
The Merling Trio is international, with musicians from Polish, Japanese, and Dutch backgrounds, and was named after the Danish violin maker, Paul Merling. Currently, Mr. Uchimura performs on an Enrico Marchetti cello, made in Turin, Italy, in 1899. Ms. Knific’s violin, fashioned by Vincenzo Postiglione in Naples, Italy, dates from 1898.
Reservations may be obtained by going to www.scfpapresents.org and clicking on Performance Schedule or by calling 520-394-9495. The cost is $25 for members of SCFPA and $30 for non-members. Membership is also available on the website, as well as series subscriptions.
